Open Living Area, Private Client, London
An open-plan living area designed to balance architectural clarity with a calm, grounded atmosphere. The space is defined by its full-height glazing and expansive urban outlook, where light becomes the primary material. The intention was to create a refined Japandi interior that feels composed and effortless, allowing the architecture and view to remain uninterrupted.
The defining feature of the space is the corner glazing, which introduces both scale and a constant dialogue with the city beyond. Rather than competing with this presence, the interior is intentionally restrained. Sheer linen curtains soften the transition between interior and exterior, diffusing light and introducing subtle movement throughout the day.
The built-in wall is conceived as a continuous oak surface, integrating storage, display, and media into a single architectural gesture. Its strength lies in its simplicity. No visual breaks, no unnecessary detailing. The recessed shelving, softly backlit, creates depth while maintaining a quiet composition. Objects are reduced to a few carefully selected ceramic and sculptural forms, allowing negative space to carry equal importance.
The seating arrangement is low and horizontal, reinforcing a sense of calm and stability. A modular sofa in warm neutral tones anchors the space without dominating it. Its soft geometry contrasts with the linear precision of the architecture, creating balance rather than tension.
At the centre, a sculptural coffee table in pale natural stone introduces tactility and weight. Its irregular edges bring a subtle organic quality, preventing the space from feeling overly controlled. Beneath it, a large tonal rug defines the living area, adding softness through texture rather than pattern.
Materiality is deliberately limited. Oak, linen, stone, and muted textiles form the foundation of the space. This restraint is not about minimalism as an aesthetic, but about clarity. Each material is allowed to express itself fully without competition. The space was created to feel calm, intentional, and quietly sophisticated. This is a living area where nothing is excessive, yet nothing feels missing.
