A private dining room commission in Copenhagen, created for a client who wanted to preserve the elegance of a traditional Danish apartment while introducing a calmer, more contemporary atmosphere. The design draws together Scandinavian craftsmanship and Japanese restraint, balancing architectural heritage with a softer, slower approach to everyday living. Rather than competing with the apartment’s ornate detailing, the intervention quietly complements it through carefully considered proportions, natural materials, and a restrained palette.

The original parquet flooring, decorative wall mouldings, and ceiling cornices establish a timeless backdrop, allowing the new furnishings to feel both grounded and understated. At the heart of the room sits a sculptural oak dining table with softly curved ends and fluted pedestal bases, designed to encourage gathering while maintaining visual lightness. Upholstered dining chairs in muted linen tones introduce comfort and texture, while handcrafted ceramics, a ribbed porcelain vase, and delicate seasonal branches bring a sense of quiet imperfection to the table.

A fluted oak sideboard provides discreet storage and echoes the detailing of the dining table, while warm brass accents introduce a subtle layer of refinement.
