A private living room renovation in Munich, designed as a quiet retreat where everyday routines unfold at a slower pace. The brief centred on creating a warm, contemporary interior that embraces natural materials, generous daylight, and a strong connection to the surrounding garden. Rooted in Japandi principles, the design balances clean architectural lines with tactile finishes and carefully curated furnishings, resulting in a space that feels both refined and deeply inviting.

The material palette is intentionally restrained, combining warm oak, soft mineral stone, and muted linen tones to create a calm and timeless atmosphere. A bespoke window seat extends across the garden-facing elevation, transforming the large picture window into a place for reading, morning coffee, or quiet reflection. The integrated timber detailing reinforces the architecture while drawing the landscape into the room, allowing nature to become an integral part of the interior experience.

At the heart of the space, a low lounge arrangement encourages relaxed conversation around a sculptural fluted oak coffee table, while a built-in fireplace introduces warmth and a natural focal point throughout the seasons. Layered textiles, handcrafted ceramics, and understated decorative objects add texture without visual clutter, reinforcing the philosophy that comfort comes through simplicity rather than excess. Every element has been selected to create an environment that feels peaceful, balanced, and effortlessly lived in, where contemporary German architecture and Japanese inspired minimalism come together in harmony.
