Sustainability in Japandi Interior Design Style
Japandi interior design style is said to be a blend of Japanese and Scandinavian design styles. I’m writing this article because I know some of you may be wondering, “Is Japandi style sustainable?” or “What is the environmental impact of Japandi Style?”. But first of all, what is Japandi? No, it’s not the new name for your favourite Swedish candy — it’s an interior design style. I am sure the idea of having two cultures mixed despite being completely different sides of the world in a single room seems pretty intriguing to many people. Japandi-style interior design focuses on simplicity, functionality, and minimalism. But it doesn’t mean it is a cold design. Actually, it is quite the opposite. Implementing Japandi style into your home makes your home warmer, calmer, healthier, greener, and timelessly elegant. But how sustainable is Japdndi interior design style?
Is Japandi Style Sustainable?
Japandi is a minimalist design style that focuses on using the bare minimum to create an elegant look. It’s not about over-decorating or trying to cram in more than you need; it’s about taking your time and thinking about every element of your space. Japandi focuses on creating clean, uncluttered spaces that allow you to focus on what really matters. And one of the best elements of Japandi is that it emphasizes a “less-is-more” approach to sustainability. What does “less-is-more” mean? It means that you need less stuff in your space. I’m not saying to throw out everything on your walls or put all of your stuff into storage—I am talking about focusing on the things that matter most in each room of the house. For example, if your living room has a beautiful view from one window, then maybe don’t hang any artwork on that wall! Instead, focus on making sure that every other wall is filled with pieces that bring beauty and interest into the room. You’ll be amazed at how much more spacious and peaceful your home feels when you take away some of its clutter! There are four factors that Japandi is sustainable interior design style. Let me share them with you.
#1. Natural Materials Furniture and Home Decor
Japandi focuses on the use of natural materials like wood, stone, and metal in furniture and home decor. The main focus of this style is to create an inviting atmosphere by using natural materials that are both beautiful and sustainable. In order to do this, it often uses wood as the primary material because wood is one of the most durable materials available today; therefore it can be used for many different types of furniture pieces such as tables, chairs or beds without worrying about them becoming damaged quickly due to heavy use over time. The result is to create a feeling of warmth in the home and a look that’s simultaneously modern and classic, with an earthy vibe.
#2. Love For Craftmanship and Artisans
Japandi believes in the power of craftsmanship and artisans. Believing that these are not just jobs—they are a way of life and an expression of the human soul. When you buy these products, you are supporting not only the people who made them but also the passion they put into their work. Each piece that is made by hand, using only the finest materials and all of the traditional techniques is unique in its own right and can be passed down through generations of family members as an heirloom that will last forever and always be treasured.
#3. Long-Lasting Quality
The things you surround yourself with should be beautiful, functional and built to last for years to come. That’s why choosing furniture that is crafted from the most durable natural materials, with a focus on quality over quantity is one of the keys when you apply Japandi style into your home.
It’s true: if you buy something that isn’t well-made, it won’t last as long as something that is well-made. And then you’ll need to buy another one! And another one! And another one! And obviously doing that is not eco-friendly at all. So think of all the time, money, energy and environment you could save by investing in a few high-quality pieces that will last forever—or at least a really long time.
#4. Less Is More
As I mentioned above, Japandi design is based on the principle of “less-is-more.” I believe that this approach to sustainability will lead to a greater sense of well-being and contentment while also reducing waste. The less you have, the more likely you are to appreciate what you do have. The more things you have, the more likely it is that something will go wrong with one of them and cause problems for you as a result. This is why I believe that Japandi design is well fit in our modern world—it promotes minimalism, and simplicity, and improves the quality of life.
Final Thoughts on Is Japandi Style Sustainable?
Japandi design is an approach to designing interiors with materials from the natural world. As the global population increases and the demand for resources rises, the concept of sustainability will be more important in all aspects of our lives. The same is true when it comes to designing and decorating our homes.
