What is igusa?🌱

It is the soft rush grass behind every tatami mat, woven into Japanese floors for over a thousand years. Not manufactured, not synthetic. Simply grown, dried, and woven by hand.

The finest igusa comes from Kyushu, where clean water and clear air produce a denser, more supple grass. And it does quite work once it is in a room: it helps clean the air, balances humidity through the seasons, and ages from soft green to warm gold rather than wearing out.
