Tips to create an eco-friendly home office

Working from home? If the answer is yes,  you are already helping the environment. But you can be even more green by creating a home office sustainability. How? Keep reading here. I am going to share how to make a sustainable home office and some ideas of a sustainable home office.

Sustainable interior design for home office

Making your home office sustainability isn’t just for the planet. It has benefits to you as well. Sustainable interior design can improve your productivity, creativity and most importantly your health. So let’s see one by one where you can consider decorating or redecorating.

Use natural light

This is probably the first step towards making a sustainable home office. If you are about to make a home office at your home, choose a place where you can have natural light. You may already know that having natural sunlight is one of the best ways to get Vitamin D naturally. It can also reduce the risk of heart diseases and some cancers. Sunlight is essential for making a sustainable home office to maintain good health (mentally and physically).

Furthermore, using natural light in your home office will help to cut down energy usage. Therefore you can save money on electricity.

Opt for LED lights

Not everyone has the opportunity to choose a room that has plenty of natural light. If that is the case for you, Use LED lights at your home office. Installed LED lights can save up to 90 per cent of energy and it lasts much longer than traditional light bulbs.

Moreover, opting for LED lights in your home office can improve productivity. Using LED light can not only make an eco-home office, it will also be able to make a healthy environment and enhance your work performance.

Paint walls with natural paint

The home office is where you spend time half of the day. Or maybe for some people all day. Either way, it is important to make sure to create a healthy and productive environment.

It depends on what kind of wall you have in your home office. If you have walls that allowed you to repaint, paint your wall with natural paint. Natural paint that does not contain VOC. Because using a paint that contains VOC can harm your health both short term and long term. You don’t want it, do you?

You can check Frenchic Paint. They have a variety of non-toxic VOC-free paint which has over 60 different colours. I’m sure you can find your favourite colour. Not sure what colour to use? No worries! You can learn about the psychological effects of colours in interior design. Frenchic Paint is perfectly breathable and safe for your health while working remotely.

Invest in sustainable desk and chair

You do not have to throw furniture that you already have. However, if you just started making your home sustainable, choose sustainable furniture for your home office. Get to know what materials are sustainable from here first. If you can, choose the local stores to reduce footprints. Also, make sure to check if the company practices sustainability.

Have plants

Nature power is massive. Having plants is one of the best ways to make a green home office. There are some benefits to having plants in your home office.

Firstly It helps to improve indoor air quality. Plants have the ability to remove almost 90 % of the pollutants in the air. This means It will also help to boost the immune system.

Secondly, you may know that being surrounded by green lowers your stress and anxiety. It applies to plants as well. Having plants around you can help your mental health. And that leads to improved work productivity. If you feel too stressed and work doesn’t progress, stop for a second and look at your plants that you are nurturing.

If you don’t have a sustainable yoga mat or yoga wear. Check Planet Warrior and Manduka. Their high-quality yoga mats are made from recycled plastic bottles and eco rubber.

How to be eco-friendly while working from home

Now you know how to make a sustainable home office. There are more ways to be eco-friendly while remotely working. Here are 3 ways to be greener at a sustainable home office.

Use app instead of paper

I am sure there are situations where you have to use paper. Bur try to cut down the unnecessary paper as much as possible. Luckily there are so many useful apps you can use instead of wasting papers. If your work requires you to use paper, use recycled one at least. This is part of making a sustainable home office.

Eco-friendly office stationery and supplies

Please do not throw the products you already have. Use them until it gets completely useless. And then invest in eco-friendly office stationery and supplies. There are so many products made from recycled materials or sustainable materials. Keep reusable bottle with you

If you drink coffee or tea, keep it in the reusable bottle. These bottles can keep your cold or hot drink for hours. Why should you do it? To save kettle energy consumption. Also, you don’t have to go to the kitchen whenever your drink is finished. So you can just focus on your work.
